My Creative Critical Reflection for The Shocking Shell

  Making my short film  The Shocking Shell  was honestly one of the most fun (and chaotic) projects I’ve ever truly worked on. It started as this silly idea in class that I brainstormed about a babysitter getting a little more than she ended up bargaining for, and somehow it turned into a full short film that really came to life in the end with my sister and me playing all the characters, and my own pet turtle Potato starring as the turtle in the film. The story plays with some modern issues and stereotypes that we have in the world, especially around social media and in the parenting scene. The Influencer Babysitter is one of those people who only care about likes and followers and not actually doing their job the way they’re supposed to. The Military Vet Babysitter is super intense and acts like babysitting is a warzone but still gets jumpy over small sounds.  It is finally here everyone! Check out The Shocking Shell!  When the mysterious and meticulous Ms. Burns seeks the perfect babysitter for her beloved "angel," a candidate is met with a house full of eerie perfection and one strict rule: never, under any circumstance, take the child out of the tank. But as young and unsuspecting Lucy quickly discovers, the “child” is not exactly anything of a child at all—but a deceiving innocent turtle by the name of potato. What begins as a quiet evening quickly spirals into a hilarious and high-stakes game of cat and mouse (or, more accurately, girl and turtle), as Potato reveals a shocking side that leaves chaos in his wake. Armed with nothing but her wits and a small salad bowl, Lucy must survive the night until Ms. Burns returns, restore order in the house, and face the unpredictable power of one very small, crazy turtle. Planning For My CCR

Planning My Creative Critical Reflection Essay How do your products represent social groups or issues? My short film I'm creating,  The Shocking Shell , plays with some stereotypes and modern issues here and there like social media obsession and a bit of overprotective parenting. The Influencer Babysitter shows how some people care more about clout than responsibility or a job, while the Military Vet Babysitter exaggerates discipline and paranoia. Ms. Burns represents extreme attachment to her turtle, and Lucy is the relatable, down-to-earth character in the whole film. The story challenges those first impressions that are supposed to be simple and on top of that, plays with expectations in a fun way that I feel everyone will enjoy.
